The Mystery Behind the Magic, a $60 adults-only magic and mentalism dinner, runs 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Community Center, with child care for ages 5 to 12.
Wellington’s yearly murder mystery dinner has a new format. This year it is a magic and mentalism night, The Mystery Behind the Magic, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Wellington Community Center, 12150 Forest Hill Blvd.
The village announced the change in a news release. It said the event was “formerly presented as Wellington’s annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater.”
The headliner is magician and mentalist David Frost. The village said his act mixes sleight of hand, mind reading and psychological illusion, and that he works with the audience at their tables.
What the evening includes
The release lists the evening in this order:
- a cocktail reception with passed hors d’oeuvres on the outdoor Promenade
- a three-course, banquet-style dinner in the Community Center’s renovated Grande Ballroom
- wine and Prosecco from the event sponsor, Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants
- Frost’s interactive performance
The theme is the Roaring ’20s, and the village suggests formal attire.

The child care runs during the dinner and show, so parents can attend. The release says registration details and any requirements for it are on the same CivicRec system.
What it means for you
- If you want to go: book on CivicRec before Saturday. Seating is limited, the village said.
- If you have young children: ask about the child care when you register; it covers ages 5 to 12 only.
- If you are driving past: expect a busier Community Center lot on Forest Hill Boulevard on Saturday evening.
