The Wellington Tennis Center is one of 41 USTA Outstanding Facility winners for 2026. The Village Council recognizes the award at its meeting Tuesday.

The Wellington Tennis Center has won a 2026 Outstanding Facility Award from the United States Tennis Association. The village-run center on Lyons Road is one of 41 winners nationwide.

The Village Council recognizes the award at its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Village Hall, 12300 Forest Hill Blvd. That is according to the council’s agenda item.

What the award is for

The USTA’s Outstanding Facility Awards recognize the building or renovation of tennis facilities across the country. The USTA announced this year’s winners in September, the village’s agenda item said.

Wellington won in the “Public Courts: Large Tennis Centers” category, for public sites with 12 or more courts. The other categories cover small public courts, small and large private clubs, schools and colleges, and innovation.

Representatives of the center were honored Aug. 31 at a ceremony at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, during the US Open. That is according to USTA Florida’s announcement.

Six new courts this year

USTA Florida pointed to the six courts the village opened in May 2026. The state section said the project was paid for in part by a $200,000 grant from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program. It called the project one of the biggest public tennis investments in Palm Beach County in recent years.

Seven Florida facilities won awards this year, more than in any other state, USTA Florida said. They include the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center in Fort Lauderdale and Midtown Athletic Club in Weston.

The Wellington center opened June 9, 2015. The village’s Tennis Center page lists:

  • 24 self-irrigated Har-Tru clay courts and three hard courts
  • a 4,506-square-foot clubhouse with a pro shop
  • a canvas-covered rooftop balcony
  • eight tennis professionals on staff for private and group lessons

Chuck Gill is the village’s director of tennis. He is also president of USTA Florida, the state section said.

What it means for you

The center is public, and you can play without an annual pass. The village’s court fees page lists a daily court fee of $14 a person for residents and $18 for nonresidents, with a 1.5-hour minimum. Residents need a tax bill and a current utility bill to get the resident rate.

Courts can be reserved 48 hours ahead by calling the pro shop. The village also has a court reservations page.

  • Address: 3100 Lyons Road. The pro shop’s number is 561-791-4775.
  • Regular hours: 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
  • Thanksgiving week: open 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, and closed Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27.
  • Rain: the village’s facility status line shows whether the courts are open.

More places to play are in our parks and trails guide, and the Thanksgiving page has holiday hours for every village facility.
