Curaleaf has opened a medical marijuana dispensary at 2495 S. State Road 7 in Wellington, near the mall. Patients need a state registry card to buy.

Curaleaf has opened a medical marijuana dispensary in Wellington, at 2495 S. State Road 7, Suite 101. The company announced the opening Wednesday in a news release.

The store is in the Wellington Green commercial area, near The Mall at Wellington Green and the Forest Hill Boulevard intersection, the company said. Palm Beach County’s address records list the property as a community shopping center inside the village.

It is Curaleaf’s 79th dispensary in Florida and its 189th nationwide, the company said. Curaleaf is based in Stamford, Connecticut.

Hours and opening weekend

The company gave these hours:

Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A grand opening runs Friday and Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. both days. The company said the store will offer promotions, including a free eighth for the first 25 patients with a qualifying medical card each day.

Inside, a mural shows locally inspired artwork about the village’s equestrian heritage, the company said.

“With Wellington, we’re bringing reliable care and high-quality products closer to home for more patients across Palm Beach County,” Boris Jordan, Curaleaf’s chairman and CEO, said in the release.

Who can buy

Florida allows marijuana for medical use only. To buy at a dispensary, a patient must have an active Medical Marijuana Use Registry identification card, according to the state’s Office of Medical Marijuana Use.

The office lists these steps:

  • a diagnosis of a qualifying condition from a qualified physician
  • the physician enters the patient in the state registry
  • the patient applies for the ID card and is approved
  • purchases only at a state-approved treatment center, which may also deliver

Patients must be permanent or seasonal Florida residents, the office says. Its patient helpline is 800-808-9580.
