The figures come from the Zillow Home Value Index, which Zillow Research published Oct. 16. The index covers single-family homes and condos together and tracks the middle third of homes by value. It is a smoothed, seasonally adjusted estimate, not a sale price.

What it means for you

  • Owners: the typical home gained $17,851 in a year, and the climb has sped up since July.
  • Sellers: homes are going under contract faster. Zillow’s median time from listing to an accepted offer was 34 days in September, against 70 days a year earlier.
  • Buyers: Wellington is gaining faster than any of its neighbors, and its typical value is about $185,700 above the Palm Beach County figure.
  • Renters: the typical asking rent rose 5.5% in a year, twice as fast as home values.
  • Property taxes: your tax value comes from the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser, not Zillow, and a homestead exemption caps the yearly rise in assessed value. See our property tax guide.
