Dog-friendly Wellington: the off-leash dog park at Greenbriar Park and its rules, where dogs are not allowed, pet-friendly patios and county rules.

Last checked Oct. 10, 2026. Sources: the Village of Wellington’s Wellington Dog Park, Greenbriar Park, Peaceful Waters Sanctuary and Aquatics Center pages; Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control’s ordinance and rabies pages; and each business’s own website. Parks: 561-791-4005.

Wellington’s place for dogs is the Wellington Dog Park at Greenbriar Park, 2975 Greenbriar Blvd.: fenced, off-leash sections for small, medium and large dogs, with wash stations, water fountains and shade. It is open dawn to dusk and closed until 3 p.m. every Thursday for maintenance. Outside that fence, the village’s rules mean leashes on, and a few places, including Peaceful Waters Sanctuary, do not allow dogs at all.

The rules

The village’s dog park rules:

  • Every dog must be licensed and vaccinated and wear a visible license.
  • Dogs may be off leash only inside the fenced area. Handlers must carry a leash and stay in the park with their dogs.
  • Handlers must be 16 or older; children under 16 need an adult. Three dogs at most per handler.
  • No dogs under 4 months, no females in heat, no aggressive dogs, and no animals other than dogs.
  • Pick up after your dog, stop digging and fill holes, and remove a dog that barks uncontrollably.
  • No toys, pools or other personal items; no food, alcohol or glass.

The village treats pests and warns that dog parks can carry fleas, ticks and other pet-waste diseases; use is at your own risk.

Where dogs are not allowed

  • Peaceful Waters Sanctuary, inside Village Park: no dogs, except service animals, under the village’s sanctuary rules. Alligators live there.
  • Wellington Aquatics Center: no animals in the pool or on the pool deck.

Equestrian events with your dog

Wellington International, the showgrounds at 3400 Equestrian Club Drive, asks that pets be leashed on its grounds, per its visitor page. At its Friday Night Stars dressage evenings, the venue says you can bring your dog as long as it is on a leash. Horses can startle; keep dogs close. See our Wellington International guide.

Patios

We list a restaurant as dog-friendly only when the business says so on its own website.

  • Kickback Tavern, 12771 W. Forest Hill Blvd.: the tavern says its pet-friendly outdoor seating lets you bring your dog. It has live music Thursday to Saturday nights.

Policies change with the weather and the staff on duty, so call ahead. Own a Wellington restaurant that welcomes dogs on its patio? Tell us through our contact page, with a link to where you say so.

County rules every dog owner needs

  • Rabies: dogs, cats and ferrets need their first rabies vaccine by 4 months of age, then boosters on the schedule on the vaccine label, per Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control.
  • License: Palm Beach County pet licensing is handled through PetData.
  • Control and leash rules: the county’s animal ordinance, Chapter 4, has a section on dog and cat control (Sec. 4-4); read it on the county’s ordinance page.

What this means for you

  • Off-leash play: Greenbriar Park, any day but Thursday morning.
  • Bring the license tag; the park requires it to be visible.
