Downed power lines: call FPL right away and stay well clear. Treat every downed line as live. If anyone is hurt or in danger, call 911 first. Horse owners: the village’s equestrian hurricane page says to keep horses out of pastures with power lines.
The outage map
FPL’s Power Tracker is an interactive map of current outages across FPL’s service area. Enter a street address, city or ZIP code (Wellington uses 33414 and 33449) to see outages near you and the estimated time of restoration. It does not show flickers or brief interruptions. During an outage, open it on a phone or a battery-powered laptop.
Flickers
FPL says interruptions of less than a minute are flickers: its system shuts off power for a moment to isolate a problem, such as tree branches, palm fronds or animals, then resets itself. Report repeated flickering to FPL; if it continues, FPL says you may need a licensed electrician.

When the water goes out
A water main break or other problem in the pipes can put your street under a boil water notice, typically for about 48 hours, according to the village’s boil water instructions. Report a break to Wellington Utilities at 561-791-4010, or 561-791-4037 after hours. While a notice is in effect, the village says:
- Bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute before drinking or cooking with it, or use bottled water.
- No power to boil? Mix 8 drops (1/8 teaspoon) of unscented household bleach per gallon and let it stand 30 minutes; use 16 drops if the water is cloudy.
- Throw out ice made after the notice was issued, and use boiled or bottled water for handwashing.
