Wellington's free beginner pickleball clinic is Nov. 7 at Greenbriar Park, ages 10 and up. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Dates to April.
Wellington’s next free Learn to Play Pickleball clinic is Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at the pickleball courts in Greenbriar Park, 2975 Greenbriar Boulevard. It costs nothing, but you cannot just turn up: the village requires everyone to register in advance, and space is limited.
The clinics are open to anyone 10 or older who is just starting out or has only recently started to play, according to the Parks and Recreation announcement posted Aug. 28. Experienced coaches cover the rules, basic strategy and serving. No equipment is needed.
The village says the series “has introduced dozens of new ‘pickleballers’ to the sport.” It started again on Oct. 10, and seven sessions are scheduled through April.

How to sign up
Registration is through Wellington’s online recreation catalog, CivicRec, at wellingtonfl.gov/CivicRec. Anyone who already has a CivicRec account can sign up directly. Anyone without one can create an account in the catalog first and then register.
Check the village’s pickleball page for date changes before you go. Wellington posts weather closures for outdoor courts on its Weather and Field Status page.

Staying on to play
After each clinic, players can stay at the courts for open play. Greenbriar Park has six courts that are open daily from sunrise to sunset on a first come, first served basis, the village says. Outside the clinics, players must bring their own paddles and balls.
The posted rules at Greenbriar include:
- Paddle racks decide who plays next
- Games go to 11 points, and you must win by 2
- A 30-minute limit applies when players are waiting, and players should leave the court at the end of a game if others are waiting
- No unauthorized tournaments, league play or paid services
- No food or drink on the courts, no alcohol or smoking, and no dogs except service animals
Wellington also allows pickleball on four of the eight lighted tennis courts at Greenview Shores Park, 2163 Greenview Shores Boulevard. Those courts are open 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. A one-hour limit applies there when others are waiting.
For players who want more
The village also runs a paid Pickleball Fundamentals class with Love Serving Autism on Sundays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Greenbriar Park. The village says the class is open to all levels and abilities, including people with a disability or who need special accommodations. The catalog lists it at $45 to $60. Registration is in the same online recreation catalog.
