The Southern Boulevard U-turn at State Road 7 is closed, with a Fairgrounds Road detour. Also: SR 7 at Lake Worth Road, Turnpike and Town Center Drive.
Last checked Oct. 23, 2026. Facts on this page come from FDOT District 4’s Palm Beach County traffic report for Oct. 16-23 and project pages, a Florida’s Turnpike construction alert, the Village of Wellington’s road closures and projects page and FL511. FDOT had not posted its report for Oct. 23-30 when this page was checked, so lane closure hours after Friday, Oct. 23, are not confirmed here. This page is refreshed every week.
The closure most likely to catch Wellington drivers is at the Southern Boulevard ramps on State Road 7, just northeast of the village. The U-turn lane on the eastbound Southern Boulevard off-ramp, which drivers use to get onto westbound Southern Boulevard, is closed until fall 2026, and the northbound SR 7 right-turn lane onto eastbound Southern Boulevard is closed for bridge widening, FDOT says. At the south end of SR 7, FDOT is rebuilding the Lake Worth Road intersection. Inside the village, part of Town Center Drive is still closed.

Southern Boulevard ramps at State Road 7
This $8.3 million job widens SR 7 and the C-51 canal bridge for dual right-turn lanes on northbound and southbound SR 7, adds triple left-turn and dual right-turn lanes on the Southern Boulevard ramps and rebuilds and signalizes the U-turns on both ramps, according to the FDOT project page. General Asphalt Co. is the contractor. FDOT’s Oct. 16 traffic report gives completion as summer 2027; the project page still says spring 2027.
- U-turn closed: the U-turn lane on the eastbound Southern Boulevard off-ramp at SR 7 is closed until fall 2026. Detour: stay on eastbound Southern Boulevard past the SR 7 off-ramp and make a U-turn at Fairgrounds Road to reach westbound Southern Boulevard and U.S. 441.
- Right-turn lane closed: the northbound SR 7 right-turn lane to the eastbound Southern Boulevard on-ramp is closed around the clock for bridge widening.
- Daytime lane closures: one lane in each direction of SR 7 closed intermittently, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Friday, Oct. 23. FL511 also lists the right lane of northbound SR 7 blocked at Southern Boulevard.
- Night closures allowed: single and dual lane closures on the ramps from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., and dual lane closures on SR 7 from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., the project page says.
- Sidewalks closed: the northeast and southeast sidewalks on SR 7 and Southern Boulevard are closed through fall 2026. Walkers and cyclists on the east sidewalk are detoured to the signal at Erica Boulevard to cross to the west sidewalk, then north past Acme Road and under the Southern Boulevard ramps.
State Road 7 at Lake Worth Road
The $3.4 million project on Wellington’s east side adds a northbound to eastbound right-turn lane, a sidewalk on the east side of SR 7, new signals and LED lighting, high-visibility crosswalks and repaving, according to FDOT. The Stout Group is the contractor.
- One southbound SR 7 lane closed intermittently, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., through Friday, Oct. 23, for earthwork.
- The shopping plaza entrance and exit on northbound SR 7, south of Lake Worth Road, is closed through Friday, Oct. 23. Use the plaza’s Lake Worth Road entrance.
Florida’s Turnpike between Southern and Okeechobee boulevards
Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is widening the Turnpike from north of Southern Boulevard (Exit 97) to north of Okeechobee Boulevard, east of the village. On Okeechobee Boulevard over the Turnpike, one lane each way is closed around the clock between Vista Parkway and West Drive, four lanes down to three, through early 2028, and more closures are expected nightly from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., the Turnpike’s construction alert says. FL511 also lists left lanes blocked on eastbound Okeechobee Boulevard at Vista Parkway and on eastbound Southern Boulevard at Pike Road. Night lane closures on the Turnpike itself are scheduled through the month for paving and signs.
Forest Hill Boulevard at Haverhill Road
East of the village in West Palm Beach, FDOT is adding LED lighting, signal backplates, curb ramps and repaving at the Forest Hill Boulevard and Haverhill Road intersection (project page). One outside lane was closed intermittently from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Friday morning, Oct. 23; FDOT had not posted next week’s hours.
Village projects and closures
- Town Center Drive: part of the road is closed behind a construction gate for the Town Center Phase 2 project and will stay closed until the project is finished. The Aquatics Center, Community Center and Town Center Promenade are open from Ken Adams Way, the village says. Amphitheater events, including Thursday food trucks and the Saturday concerts, have moved to Village Park, 11700 Pierson Road.
- Hydrant flushing: through Monday, Oct. 26, during the utility’s free chlorine maintenance, village crews are flushing fire hydrants. Water may taste or smell of chlorine.
- Water meter replacement: Wellington’s contractor, Envocore, is swapping residential water meters for wireless smart meters over 12 to 18 months from June 2026. Expect marked trucks in neighborhoods and a 15- to 30-minute water shutoff at each house; residents get a mailed notice and a door hanger first.
The village posts new closures on its road closures and projects page and in its news flash.
Who owns which road
- FDOT (state): State Road 7/U.S. 441, Southern Boulevard (SR 80), Okeechobee Boulevard (SR 704) and Forest Hill Boulevard (SR 882) in West Palm Beach.
- Florida’s Turnpike: runs east of the village; Exit 97 is Southern Boulevard and Exit 93 is Lake Worth Road.
- Wellington: the village’s own streets, paths and road shoulders. Its Roads division repairs potholes, damaged asphalt paths and shoulders and pavement broken by water main breaks.
What this means for you
- Coming off eastbound Southern Boulevard and want to head back west? Skip the SR 7 ramp U-turn and use Fairgrounds Road until it reopens.
- Heading north on SR 7 to eastbound Southern Boulevard? There is no dedicated right-turn lane during bridge widening; allow extra time.
- Use Ken Adams Way, not Town Center Drive, for the Aquatics Center and Community Center.
- Check FL511 before you leave; FDOT’s lane closure report changes every Friday.
